Old Scholars FA clubs make moves ahead of season 2024
With the Old Scholars Football Association season drawing closer, clubs are starting to finalise their playing lists for next season. Here’s a look at all the signings and coaching announcements.

The 2024 Old Scholars Football Association season is getting closer.
Ahead of a new season, all six clubs are dreaming of premiership success.
To get to the promise lands, teams have been bolstering their playing lists and coaching staff.
Here’s a look at what’s happened in the off-season so far.
ST VIRGILS
Jakob Best: A player with plenty of potential still as he makes the move across from the SFL where he played regular senior footy for Brighton. Expected to slot across half-forward and on the wing with his elite ball used and hard running.
Coaching announcement: Luke Potter, the 2023 premiership captain, and Sam Coetzee, last year’s assistant, have been named as co-coaches.
UNIVERSITY
Tim Reynolds: Returns to the club after two years with University Lions in the NTFA. Last played for the club in 2021 and earned a reputation a great mark and fantastic by foot.
Zac Griggs: Makes the move from Kingborough and at 18 is already earning a reputation as a “super competitive defender” according to the club.
Luke Kreune: The winger comes to the club after a one-year stint with Clarence. At 21, he can go forward and kick goals.
Tristan Barnett: Returns to Tasmania after a year in NSW where he was the Hunter Central Coast competition’s leading goalkicker. A former senior footballer with North Hobart too.
Ryan Hapka: Joins from Lindisfarne and will play a key role in defence.
Lachlan Jones: A swingman who joins from North Hobart.
Braden Livingston: Returns to the club after five seasons with Cygnet where he won a senior premiership.
Archie Sward: A goalkicking midfielder who has made the move from Kingborough.
Dylan Huxley: A player with plenty of experience at Hobart and Claremont. Will also be the forwards coach.
Sam Dickson: A classy halfback who arrives after a long career with Kingborough, where he captained the development team in 2023.
Nathan Cranfield: Arrives after playing the last seven years with Lindisfarne, where he won three flags in defence.
Coaching announcement: Ben Van Kraanen re-signed for a further two years in August.
DOSA
Michael Cassidy: Over 100 TSL games for Hobart and Lauderdale to his name before coaching Lindisfarne. The club is excited about his arrival.
Connor Millward: A tall defender who crosses from Lindisfarne and has plenty of potential.
Joe Sowter: A young talent who crosses from Lindisfarne, standing at 6’6”.
Coaching announcement: The experienced Daniell Willing has been appointed. He coached Lauderdale in 2021 and 2022.
OHA
Leo Blair: The 18-year-old crosses from North Hobart where he was part of the Development League premiership last year.
Jake de Winter: Makes the move from Melbourne’s Southern league competition and also has a strong reputation of being an athletic forward.
Coaching announcement: Ben Allanby has recommitted to the club for a third season.
HUTCHINS
Coaching announcement: Ex-Melbourne player Andrew Lamprill has been named as the club’s new coach to replace Nick Leitch. He has previously coached Kingborough, Hobart and Vermont in Melbourne.
RICHMOND
Coby Dawes: Adds to the club’s big man stocks after a year away. Has previously played with Lauderdale and Lindisfarne.
Ryan Cowen: After two years with Dodges Ferry, he’s expected to be a versatile acquisition.
Adrian Tattnell-Cowen: Capable of playing in the ruck but also up forward or on a wing. Brings lots of versatility.
Brodie Donohoe: A former Colts captain at Dodges Ferry and can play anywhere across the ground.
Tyler Blowfeild: Returns to footy after a few years away.
Angus Fisher: A young gun with plenty of experience already, he arrives from Lauderdale.
Coaching appointment: Tyson Bluett has been appointed as the new senior coach after previously serving as an assistant as Dodges Ferry.
