The next big step in the establishment of Tasmania’s AFL team has been locked in.

On Thursday, it was confirmed the AFL’s 19th team will officially confirm its club name, colours, logo and foundation jumper on March 18.

“The club made a commitment to the Tasmanian community that the reveal would happen in March and we are thrilled to confirm that this will now take place on March 18,” the club’s executive director Kath McCann said.

“The reveal will take place in multiple locations around Tasmania and the community will be invited to participate.

“It is a very significant milestone for the club and we are looking forward to sharing it with all Tasmanians and AFL fans all around the world.”

Earlier this month, McCann told SEN that the club planned on building from scratch, not looking to copy the ways of another club.

“We don’t need to replicate a model of another club, or another place, because we’re our own place,” she told the radio station.

“It’s really working with the AFL team to understand that, and there’s no better way to do that than actually to get them here (to Tasmania).

“I had one of the other senior staff say to me, ‘Kath, I’m drinking the Tassie Kool-Aid. You’re already my second club’.”

In December, plans for a $70m high performance centre at Clarence on what was formerly the Rosny Golf Course, were unveiled.

It will include an indoor field, and MCG-sized oval while a second oval will be built across the road at Charles Hand Park.

At the time, Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street, said the facility was “vital in setting the club up for success from the outset”.

“The High Performance Centre would be more than just a place for players to prepare,” he said.

“It will represent a symbol of the club’s ambitions and values.

“We are confident players and staff will embrace this location. It is close to the city and the airport, has great amenities nearby and will make the team highly visible.”

There will also be other club announcements including memberships going on sale made during the coming weeks.
