THE Mountaineers have gone missing in the search for a name for Tasmania’s new NBL franchise leaving only three contenders still in the running.
Team Tasmania started with a top five on its list of contenders, but last week it cut the Timbers and this week the Mountaineers went over the cliff.
The remaining candidates are the Tridents, Pride and Jack Jumpers as the potential names for Tasmania, which will be the league’s 10th team for the 2021-22 season.
Team Tasmania CEO Simon Brookhouse said the weekly cull had created a huge buzz.
“The excitement around Tasmania’s entry to the NBL is growing by the day and we moved another step closer to revealing the team’s name with the elimination of the
Mountaineers,” Brookhouse said.
“Our passionate fans continue to share their opinions and we are enjoying listening to their feedback.
“We are now down to three names and next week we will reveal the final two ahead of the reveal of the name on October 1.”
Brookhouse said Team Tasmania had enlisted brand and design agency
SouthSouthWest, led by creative director and Tasmanian Andy Sargent, to help bring the name and brand of the new team to life.
Foundation Memberships for the new team will also be launched on October 1.
