WILL Tasmania be jumping with the Jack Jumpers, cheering on the Pride, growing with the Timbers, climbing up the ladder with the Mountaineers or thrusting Tridents in celebration?

These are the five names registered so far by the NBL for the new Tasmanian team to enter the competition in 2021-22.

The Jack Jumpers could see the $40 million refurbished Derwent Entertainment Centre nicknamed “The Nest” while the Pride name could work as in the collective for a family of Lions — which stands proudly on the state’s flag.

The Tridents, with its three prongs, could represent the state’s sometimes divided three regions coming together as one, while the Mountaineers and the Timbers are a nod to Tasmania’s rugged environment, although timber has been a divisive issue in the state for generations now.

An NBL spokesman confirmed the league had registered these five names but said it was not the final short list.

The official competition will remain open until Friday and the list of names could be added to, but the league wanted to trademark these popular names before they were taken.
