One of the top five names in the running to be Team Tasmania’s NBL nickname has been axed from the shortlist. See which four remain in the running, with 21 days to go >>

THE list of finalists for the name of Tasmania’s new NBL team is down to four after the least popular of the top five, the Tall Timbers, was axed by the basketball club.

With 21 days left before the name is revealed, the chopping of Tall Timbers leaves Tasmania Jack Jumpers, Tridents, Pride and Mountaineers still in the running to be the moniker of Tasmania’s newest high-profile sporting team.

Team Tasmania CEO Simon Brookhouse said the top five had drawn an incredible reaction.

“There’s been some fantastic debate since we announced the shortlist of names for the new team last week,” Brookhouse said.

“It seems everyone has an opinion on the names we revealed and it shows how passionate fans are.

“This week we have further reduced the shortlist and we will continue to eliminate one name each week ahead of the final reveal on October 1.”

Brookhouse said Team Tasmania had called brand and design agency SouthSouthWest, led by creative director and Tasmanian Andy Sargent, to help bring the name and brand of the new team to life.

Foundation Memberships will also be launched on October 1

with Tasmanians able to purchase these ahead of the team’s entry into the

Hungry Jack’s NBL as the league’s 10th team for the 2021-22 season.
