GEORGE Town Council mayor Bridget Archer will run for the Liberals in Bass in the federal election.
Cr Archer will compete with incumbent Labor MHR Ross Hart for the Northern seat.
“I don’t underestimate the work ahead and know from experience that what the voters want is to be engaged with,” Cr Archer said.
“I pride myself on being consultative and working with the community to grow our regions and create opportunities.”

Liberal party state president Geoff Page commended Cr Archer’s record of standing up for regional Tasmanians: “With backgrounds in farming, business and hospitality, Bridget has the skills and real-world experience to deliver for Northern Tasmania,”
Cr Archer pulled 1803 primary votes for the party in the state election this year and swung about 51 per cent of votes in the George Town mayoral race.
Bass swung heavily to Labor in 2016 after a national campaign to have Liberal Andrew Nikolic ousted.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has indicated the federal election will be held in May.
