“After much consideration and some encouraging conversations this week I have decided that I will seek party endorsement to contest the seat of Bass at the next federal election for the Liberal party,” Cr Archer said.

“My ongoing commitment has been working for the betterment of the George Town area, but also in the context of the wider region.

“I believe this is an opportunity to enhance that representation.”

Young Liberal Kyle Barrett has also signalled his intention to run for preselection.

The Bass incumbent is Labor MHR Ross Hart.

The Liberals are yet to announce candidates for Bass, Lyons and Clark, but will run Wynyard RSL president Gavin Pearce in Braddon and Glenorchy newsagent Dean Young in Franklin.

The Liberals have previously declared Bass and Lyons “winnable”.

Expressions of interest for the electorates close next Friday.
