FUMING South Hobart residents have turned on the waterworks after going a full day without H2O after a burst main cut flow to hundreds of homes.
The mass water outage on Wednesday lasted most of the day and extended from South Hobart to surrounding suburbs.
Angry residents now say they want compensation from TasWater after resorting to ordering takeaway food during the outage.
South Hobart resident Stuart Bridges said TasWater notified customers via SMS that the water would be restored at 6.45pm on Wednesday.
However, by 7.30pm Mr Bridges claimed there was still no water and “no further communication from them (the department)”.
“About to head out to a supermarket to buy some water. Uber Eats suddenly on the menu tonight and looking forward to advice from TasWater on compensation. Several suburbs of Hobart now without water for several hours,” Mr Bridges said.
Resident Rebecca Smith also expressed frustration: “11 hours water outage in South Hobart, Dynnyrne and Tolmans Hill. Won’t go back on until at least 9pm and TasWater have not apologised or offered compensation,” she said.
The problem ironically arose on Wednesday morning from a burst main on Waterworks Road, a major thoroughfare through suburbs Sandy Bay, Dynnyrne, Tolmans Hill and South Hobart.
