A well loved Tasmanian man, known as the life of the party, has been remembered as a “legend”, after he died days shy of his 45th birthday, due to Covid related complications.

David Jones was a hairdresser by day and an avid party goer by night.

“One word to describe him would be flamboyant, he was a party guy, wherever there was music playing, David was there,” sister Melissa Anders said.

“His pride and joy were his three children … he loved his children, loved his family, loved being a hairdresser.

“He never had a bad word about anyone, he was here to live a good life, he never wanted to be old.”

Mr Jones passed away on Thursday after he contracted Covid, which brought on pneumonia, a chest infection and sepsis and a cardiac arrest.

He would have celebrated his 45th birthday on Saturday.

“He had his own birthday party planned at Botanica,” Ms Anders said.

“He normally had a theme for his birthday, tonight (Saturday) it was red and white, he always planned his own parties.”

One of Mr Jones’ best friends Juan Toro said the loss had left many broken hearted.

“He was always happy and dancing and cared about his friends and always brought the community together,” Mr Toro said.

“He always had a smile on his face and would say ‘tomorrow is another day’.

“Everywhere he went, everyone knew him.

“Everyone loved him, we lost a legend … Tasmania lost the most wonderful person.”

Mr Toro said Mr Jones was a very active in the LGBTQI+ community.

“He always going to Flamingos, he always went to Mardi Gras in Sydney every year,” Mr Toro said.

“He always said we have to respect and love each other because we’re a small community,”

Ms Anders said the pain of her brothers passing was felt by many.

“We have been inundated with messages of people offering messages and support and condolences,” she said.

“It is comforting knowing, he’s left this world with so many people loving him.”

Tributes flowed online for Mr Jones.

“You were such a Spark in the community! You will be dearly missed! Cheers to you and here’s to many more parties amongst the stars!” the operators of the former Flamingoes Dance Bar said on Facebook.

“The Hobart night-life will not be the same without your bubbly personality,” Hobart drag queen Pussay Poppins said.

Mr Toro said a funeral will be held on October 24th.

“We’re not allowed to wear black, we have to wear bright colours and play music,” he said.
