Former teacher Keith Athol Bates-Willie has child sex abuse case mentioned in Hobart Supreme Court

A former Tasmanian teacher accused of multiple historical child sex abuse crimes has taken another step in his case.

A former teacher accused of multiple child sex abuse offences dating back more than 50 years has had his matter mentioned in a Hobart court.

Keith Athol Bates-Willie appeared in Hobart Supreme Court on Monday for the mention of his matter.

Bates-Willie, a former Hobart teacher, is facing 10 charges of indecent assault against three males in Hobart between the 70s and 90s.

It is understood Bates-Willie has connections to the state’s theatre scene.

He is also charged with a single count of persistent sexual abuse of a child or young person at the state’s capital, between January and December 1979.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, with a trial date yet to be set.

Justice Gregory Geason adjourned Bates-Willie’s matter for mention to a date in early May.
