Barefoot interstate tourist fails Cradle Mountain climb attempt

October 12, 3.30pm: A 22-year-old interstate tourist rang triple-0 to report injuries after attempting to climb Cradle Mountain barefoot.

Police say he told emergency services his feet were frostbitten and injured.

The man reportedly walked in the cold conditions for about an hour before police were alerted at about 7.30am on Saturday.

The walker was provided assistance, including footwear, and was accompanied back to the Dove Lake viewing centre.

Although the weather was fine, the temperature was in the negatives.

Sergeant Jeremy Williams reminded walkers of the need to be properly prepared with equipment and experiences when venturing into the wilderness.

Woman, 30, allegedly revered vehicle at police officers

October 11, 2pm: A 30-year-old Clarendon Vale woman is accused of reversing a car at officers on Thursday.

Officers alleged the incident occurred at Clarendon Vale about 1.15pm.

Police said the woman then allegedly fled the scene in her vehicle and continued to evade police.

The woman was shortly located and arrested in Glenorchy, police confirmed.

Police charged her with assault police, negligent driving and aggravated evade. She was detained to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday.

Anyone who witnessed a black 2004 Ford Falcon Sedan, registration FG1467, driving dangerously between Clarendon Vale and Glenorchy between 1.15pm and 1.45pm is urged to contact police.

It’s alleged the vehicle also hit a white sedan at the Mornington roundabout. Police are hoping to speak to the driver involved in the incident.

Members of the Tasmania Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, that includes state and federal officers, say they executed search warrants, including at a private Riverside home on Tuesday, following investigations.

Officers alleged devices containing child abuse material were located during the search.

Police said the 44-year-old was arrested and charged with possess or control child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service.

He has been detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on October 9.

Drink driver allegedly six times over the legal limit

October 9: Police have charged a 36-year-old Ulverstone man with drink driving after being tipped off by the public.

Officers allege witnesses observed the man driving a white Toyota Hilux driving dangerously on William St, Devonport about 8pm on Tuesday.

Police said they intercepted the driver nearby on Steele St and that he allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.322.

The driver was immediately disqualified and charged, police said.

He was bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court in December.

Tasmania Police Sergeant Jeremy Williams said driving while more than six times the legal alcohol limit was both reckless and incredibly dangerous.

“Not only are you putting your own life at risk, but the lives of other road users,” he said.

“Tasmania Police remains committed to road safety policing and enforcing the fatal five, being speed, fatigue, distraction (including mobile phone use), drink/drug driving and non-wearing of seatbelts.

“We encourage any motorists that were travelling in the area, at the time, who observed this vehicle and its manner of driving, to come forward.”

Teen allegedly sped 80km over speed limit

Police say a 17-year-old P-plater was nabbed travelling 80km over the speed limit on the Southern Outlet last month.

“Police attempted to intercept the vehicle, however, it continued at speed and weaved between other motorists to avoid police,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.

“He was later intercepted and arrested.”

Anyone who might have dashcam footage of a black Ford Fiesta driving dangerously is urged to come forward.
