Kunanyi/Mt Wellington ready to reopen for exercise

Mt Wellington is set to reopen to the public, but there are still restrictions on who can visit and what they can do.

WELLINGTON Park will reopen from Monday for locals who live within a 30km radius – but vehicles will only be able to get as far as Fern Tree.

Hobart City Council has announced that kunanyi/Mt Wellington would reopen in line with government announcements that all national parks and reserves will open following an easing of the COVID-19 restrictions.

However, Pinnacle Rd will remain closed for now, along with the observation shelter, the toilets and The Springs.

Anyone driving up will need to park at Fern Tree, then access the park by bicycle or on foot.

Anyone exercising in the area is still asked to follow the 1.5 metre social distancing rules.

Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds reminded visitors the park opening was not “back to normal” and that it was open only for exercise.

The park has been closed since March 26.
