YOUNG Kim has brought sizzling, spicy flavours from his homeland to a Tassie town as more locals cotton on to Korea’s unique and tasty cuisine.
Mr Kim said the idea to open Young’s Table at Channel Highway’s popular restaurant strip this month came about because several Asian friends were moving to Kingston and looking for casual Korean food near their homes.
“There are many good Korean restaurants in North Hobart, Sandy Bay and Huonville and I love to visit the places,” he said.
“But sometimes it’s quite far from my place so I think the location of my business will be a good option to people in this town.”
A Kingston local himself, Mr Kim said his “KFC” – or “Korean Fried Chicken” with spicy sauce – was his most popular dish.
“We’re surprised so many Aussies prefer it spicy,” Mr Kim said.
“The next most popular is Bibimbap – we serve it in a sizzling pot so it tastes better and makes you warm. It’s also the best way to consume a lot of veggies at the same time.”
Mr Kim said hard work and intricate ingredient combinations were poured into every dish, with an emphasis on fresh produce and a “very limited” amount of frozen products where needed.
“I love to share the happy moment when my customers experience Korean food – it’s like a huge reward,” Mr Kim said.
Young’s Table is open 12-8.30pm daily at Shop 58.1, 29 Channel Hwy, Kingston.
