But camping remains high on the summer school holiday wishlist of Tasmanian families.
The managers of one Tasmanian camping ground are celebrating after earning high praise from families across Australia.
Port Arthur Holiday Park is a winner in the 2013 Holidays with Kids magazine Reader's Choice Top 10 Awards, with the park taking first place in the Tasmanian Holiday Parks category.
Park managers Steve and Leanne Sowerby are thrilled by the accolade, saying free school holiday activities, sausage sizzles, live bands and a children's playground helped set them apart, as well as being located near the Port Arthur Historic Site and Stewarts Bay beach.
There's even free internet access for those who can't leave their iPads at home.
Making the most of the sun this week was the Reeve family from Old Beach.
Mum Heather, dad Marcus and children Clayton, 9, and Clare, 6, regularly enjoy camping trips together but this is the first time they have visited the Port Arthur Holiday Park.
They usually camp in the Central Highlands but were attracted to the Tasman Peninsula because they were keen to go kayaking and take a ghost tour.
Friends had recommended the campsite.
