A BRANDY produced by Tasmanian distillery Sullivans Cove has been named the world’s best at the 2021 World Brandy Awards in London.
The distillery’s XO Single Cask TDB008 won the top honour in the wine brandy category.
Sullivans Cove’s single malt whisky has won the world’s best title three times, but this award is its first for its brandy.
Head distiller Heather Tillott said the team at Sullivans Cove was humbled to receive the highest possible accolade for its brandy.
“We have been awarded similarly in the realm of whisky, however, to receive such an honour in the world of brandy is hugely significant for us as it cements our place as pre-eminent distillers and spirit producers across the broader category of barrel-aged spirits,” Ms Tillott said.
The annual competition attracts thousands of entries from around the world.
The brandies are judged blind by a large panel of journalists, distillers and other experts from the spirits industry.
Sullivans Cove beat contenders from around the globe including from France, Germany, India, South Africa and other Australian contenders.
In addition to the world’s best title, XO single cask TDB045 won a silver award and a further two brandy releases – XO single cask TDB036 and XO double cask DCB003 – took out bronze in their respective Wine Brandy categories.
Sullivans Cove XO Single Cask Brandy was born from a collaboration between Sullivans Cove Distillery and the thriving Tasmanian wine industry.
