IT will be a family affair as a West Hobart institution makes its move up the road this weekend.
The Nikitaras family is moving its original West Hobart Hill St Grocer store to a bigger premises on the corner of Arthur St to compete with larger supermarket chains and the increasing consolidation of the state’s produce growers.
Nick Nikitaras said things were moving at a frenetic pace to get the new store ready in time for trade on Monday.
“I’ve got my mum and dad and uncle doing three lamb spits to farewell the old store from 5pm on Sunday for all the local customers who are sentimental about the store closing, as we are too,” he said.
“On Monday, there will be lots of champagne and nice nibbles for customers as they walk into the new store.”
Featuring a European deli, handmade chocolates, a large spice collection and cheese section, the shop will also have an edible-flower courtyard.
Popular Hobart florist Botanical will open a second store at the new premises.
The Nikitaras family has confirmed plans in the last two months for further stores in Devonport and Latrobe.
