A LAUNCESTON company has created an Australian first product that has the world taking notice.

The Kool Company has produced a special blend of Japanese-style sencha green tea made with Tasmanian kelp, and the product is being sold locally, on the mainland and overseas.

The tea is the first product of its kind in Australia and it is believed to be only the second of its type in the world.

“T from the C” has attracted global interest and is being imported by Japanese and German customers.

Kool Company spokesman Peter Vandenbosch said the product was developed after the company heard about the health benefits of kelp.

“There are 78 vitamins and minerals in kelp,” Mr Vandenbosch said.

“It’s a great little product.

“We sent some off to Japan and they loved it, so we started playing around with it and eight months later, we had T from the C.”

Kelp used in the tea is sourced from the state’s North-West and is mixed with locally-grown organic mint and green tea sourced from Wangaratta in Victoria.

“We tried to source all the ingredients from Tasmania, but unfortunately Tassie doesn’t grow enough green tea for us to use,” Mr Vandenbosch said.

T from the C can be found locally at various health and tea shops.
