QUALITY ingredients, a good selection and modest prices are the secret to the success of Tasmania’s newly-crowned best burger place, its owner says.
Just A Bite in Hobart’s Campbell St has been awarded the honour following an online poll voted on by almost 700 readers as part of the Mercury’s Best of Tasmania series.
Michael Koumoundouros and wife Maria took over the eatery about six months ago, but the business has been established for several decades.
Mr Koumoundouros said it was “awesome” Just A Bite was considered the people’s choice.
“We just keep things simple here and we keep them at a good price — all our burgers are under $10,’’ he said.
“We’ve put a lot of hard work into it and it’s only been a short time, but the business has a good reputation for food and we get really well supported in our little area here.”
Mr Koumoundouros said his speciality was the crispy fried chicken burger.
“It’s my own recipe. My own herbs and spices in the chicken with some coleslaw, bacon, our special sauce, pickles and cheese,’’ he said.
The hamburger with the lot was also popular, he said.
Billy’s Burgers and Bar at Elizabeth St Pier, The Winston in North Hobart, Burger Haus in North Hobart and Sandy Bay’s Burger Got Soul rounded out the top five in the poll.
