A single woman has exposed an “atrocious” dating trend sweeping Australia – with hundreds of others revealing it has happened to them too.

Kim, 32, thought she would have “met someone” by now, but instead she’s caught in a never-ending cycle of being continuously strung along by men she’s dating.

The Melbourne local described the situation as a “literal sh*t show”, reeling off a string of modern dating encounters she’s endured as a result of badly behaving men because dating apps give them “too many options”.

And it seems her situation is far from unique, with hundreds of Aussie women responding to Kim’s plight with their own similar tales.

“I’m 33 this year and thought by this age I would have met someone … It’s honestly so, so bad out there,” she said in a viral TikTok video.

“Last year I was ghosted … by so many different men. Not saying I had so many on the go, but when you do want to meet some you have to put yourself out there.

“But honestly, the ghosting, the love bombing, the gaslighting, the breadcrumbing, the lying and the manipulation I have received from these ‘single’ guys is just something else.”

For those who aren’t aware, ghosting is the act of vanishing with zero explanation after going on a date or even multiple dates – and it is rife in the dating world.

Love bombing describes someone showing over-the-top affection really early on in a relationship in order to gain the upper hand.

Meanwhile breadcrumbing is the term for the dating act where someone will drop small signs of interest, without ever actually following through.

“I have been made to feel so, so bad by guys for communicating my basic needs and putting personal boundaries in place,” Kim continued.

“I’ve been gaslit for doing this, I’ve had them then ghost me for doing this. It is atrocious.

“People just think there’s so many other options out there … I think the dating apps and social media have given that [idea] to people,” she said. “It’s so hard and so mentally draining.”

Kim finished by stating she’s “sick” of having guys “chase and pursue” her, only to “retract” as soon as she reciprocates the affection, concluding she was “over it”.

The video quickly attracted attention from other women who all shared similar experiences.

“[I’m] 46 in Adelaide and it’s an absolute sh*t show out there. It’s happening everywhere. Dating apps have ruined everything!” one woman raged.

“Most think they’re god’s gift when they’re barely a 2/10! They’re always chasing the next best thing,” another weighed in.

As another added: “It’s not just Melbourne, it’s Sydney too.”

“Gone numb from the thought of dating now. [I’m] 31, and in the same boat. Melbourne used to be good for dating,” someone else said.

“The bar is in hell yet it’s still too high for them,” one mused.

Men were also quick to jump in, saying they’d experienced similar acts from women.

“Responsibility lies with both. Social media has ruined it. The expectations are so high. Plenty of good people out there,” one man said.

“OK I understand but do you honestly think that it’s just guys treating girls bad, because I could have sworn it was the opposite where I am,” another said.

Overall, the sentiment was shared by single people “worldwide” who agreed with Kim that it was “so hard”, with many reasoning it’s better to be single.

“This really hits. It’s been a while since I’ve dated, if I can’t even get the bare minimum. I’m better off single and happy,” one wrote.

“The dating apps make me physically ill. It’s so, so hard,” another said.

“I hear your pain … it’s totally awful.”
