A Toowoomba magistrate received an update on the progress on the high-profile murder case of a 25-year-old man, Thor Morgan, who was allegedly gunned down while driving on Ruthven Street.
Police allege Mr Morgan was being followed by a stolen car when he was shot in the head on at Harlaxton on March 15, 2022.
The young man managed to get himself home before he was rushed to hospital, where he died two months later on May 16.
Following the broad daylight shooting, police charged three people; Lachlan Mark Freund, 24, Isobel Rose Higgins, 24, and Tina Kathleen Hazard, 36.
However police have since dropped the charge against Ms Higgins, which was allegedly providing a false alibi for Mr Freund, who was her partner at the time.
Ms Hazard and co-accused Mark Freund, 25, still stand accused of murder and associated charges which include the unlawful use of a motor vehicle and the unlawful possession of a firearm.
On Friday, February 23, the Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard there was a delay in Ms Hazard’s case due to a revolving door of lawyers.
Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Phil Statham appeared on behalf of Condon Charles Lawyers to withdraw the firm from the case.
Mr Statham said Ms Hazard would now be represented by Legal Aid Queensland’s Ipswich office as there was a conflict of interest at the Toowoomba branch.
“That transfer has only occurred as of late yesterday,” he said.
“We are seeking that the matter could be adjourned for two months to enable the brief (of evidence) to be supplied… and for conferences (with Ms Hazard) to take place.”
Magistrate Mark Howden noted the file had “bounced around” to a number of lawyers and two different barristers were briefed on the matter.
“I do want to move it along, and there’s a barrister briefed it may well be that it can be,” he said.
He adjourned to matter to next be heard before the court on April 5.
Ms Hazard and Mr Freund remain in police custody, and neither have yet been called upon to enter any pleas to the charges.
