A 35-year-old man has lost the use of his Holden Commodore after he was caught doing a burnout on Highfields Road.

The man was observed doing the burnout as he exited the United Fuels service station, on March 19.

“The burnout caused noise, smoke and left two, still visible, skid marks on the bitumen in a westerly direction,” Highfields Senior Sergeant Stephen Gillinder said.

Police tracked the man to Goombungee where he was charged with wilfully driving a motor vehicle to create noise or smoke and impounded the vehicle for 90 days.

In unrelated matters, police are investigating the theft of building material worth about $4000.

On an unknown date between March 1-14 offenders entered a residential construction site on Thurston Street, in Kleinton, and stole a large quantity of scaffolding.

Investigations continue with police seeking assistance from the public to identify the offenders.

Sgt Gillinder said fraud remained a concern in the area after a 49-year-old Highfields woman reported that three credit cards in her name had been generated from banking institutions and mailed to her address.

Investigations continue.

Meanwhile a counterfeit $100 note was passed through the Highfields Woolworths.

“Investigations have failed to identify the transaction responsible,” Sgt Gillinder said.

“A warning was issued to all businesses for similar offences occurring in the area.”
