A teenager accused of discharging a firearm inside a Toowoomba hotel room which left a 16-year-old girl with gunshot wounds so significant she almost lost her arm is to take the case straight up to the higher court.

Karleeah Marie Jensen has been held in custody since her arrest for the February 14 incident and was not in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 10, when her matters were mentioned

However, her solicitor Alysha Jacobsen, of Bouchier Khan Lawyers, told the court though she was still waiting for the medical report which was some time off yet, Ms Jensen had instructed her to take the case via registry committal hearing up to the District Court to be dealt with.

The 18-year-old mother of one has not as yet been called upon to enter any pleas to her charges which include dangerous conduct with a weapon, grievous bodily harm, unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of explosives, unlawfully wounding of another person arising from the incident and an unrelated charge of receiving tainted property.

Police claim Ms Jensen fired a sawn-off shotgun inside the room of a hotel on Annand St on Valentine’s Day.

During the alleged incident a 16-year-old girl almost lost her arm after being hit in the shoulder, while the 16-year-old’s mother who was with her at the time was superficially injured by shrapnel.

Ms Jacobsen asked the court for an adjournment so the registry committal papers could be compiled and forwarded.

Magistrate Kay Phillipson therefore remanded Ms Jensen in custody and adjourned the matters for mention back in the same court in June.
