An alleged serial offender’s bail application has been denied because of fears he would continue to break into homes, a court has been told.

Joshua Adam Parkinson appeared via video link at the Toowoomba Court on Thursday, May 4, on 23 property related charges which he is alleged to have committed within a week of his release from jail.

The charges include stealing, trespass, fraud, enter dwelling and commit, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The court was told the charges related to a number of alleged methamphetamine-fuelled crimes which consisted of Mr Parkinson allegedly breaking into homes across Toowoomba, stealing people’s cherished possessions, as well as a number of cars – including a jet ski.

Police prosecutor Anita Page said on one occasion Mr Parkinson not only allegedly invaded a Toowoomba resident’s home but stripped it bare of every valuable possession, which he then loaded into their Holden Barina before stealing that too.

Ms Page said the residents came home to find their back door barricaded by their fridge.

“Every room in the dwelling had been searched and trashed, and a large amount of property was stolen,” she alleged.

“The list (of stolen property) goes on and on, from thongs to practically the whole household by the looks of it.”

Some of the items Mr Parkinson was alleged to have stolen included laptops, lingerie, handbags, perfume, a military duffel bag, military medals, military IDs, folders full of birth certificates, military service certificates, and bank statements.

Ms Page said the neighbour’s CCTV allegedly caught Mr Parkinson driving off in a car before returning to load the stolen property.

Ms Page said all of the alleged crimes occurred between October and December 2022.

On a different occasion, the court was told Mr Parkinson allegedly broke into a Toowoomba home, stole a car, and then used that vehicle to steal a trailer loaded with a $30,000 jet ski.

The court was told prior to the alleged offending, Mr Parkinson had received a four-year jail term for an armed robbery and burglary.

Solicitor Hamish Chapman said Mr Parkinson was extremely remorseful and very motivated to stay off drugs, and if he were released on bail, he would be admitted to a Toowoomba rehabilitation centre, Sunrise Way.

Mr Chapman noted Mr Parkinson had indicated pleas of guilty, but none were formally entered into the record, as Mr Parkinson’s lawyers were still going through the brief of evidence.

After Mr Parkinson’s bail was refused by magistrate Clare Kelly, his case was set down for a mention on June 4.
