Toowoomba man Justin Athol Sutton was arrested at the weekend after he terrorised and stalked a woman who no longer wanted a relationship with him.

On Monday morning, May 8, the 55-year-old pleaded guilty to stalking the woman and possessing methamphetamine.

The court heard Sutton refused to leave the woman alone and committed a number of disturbing acts in a short period of time.

Magistrate Louise Shephard said Sutton followed the woman, tracked down her hotel room, knocked on her hotel room door, waited for her in a car park all day, and most concerningly – pretended to be someone else which resulted in the woman unknowingly meeting up with him.

Magistrate Shephard told Sutton his behaviour was unacceptable and that it would have been a distressing and frightening situation for the woman to be in.

The court heard Sutton had no relevant criminal history in relation to stalking, however he had a dated drug history.

The court heard Sutton had relapsed into drug use and would be attending a rehabilitation facility soon after his release from custody.

Sutton was fined $1000 and no conviction was recorded.
