Forensics link serial jailed car thief Lachlan Connor Cubby to new Toowoomba crime
A court was told a known Toowoomba car thief will soon be released from jail after he pleaded guilty to a fresh crime while locked up.

A Toowoomba man with an abysmal criminal history for a 20-year-old, has pleaded guilty to a fresh crime while locked up.
The Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told forensics linked Lachlan Connor Cubby to a car stolen between May and June of 2023.
Police prosecutor Kinsley Weir said Cubby’s fingerprints were found in the passenger seat area of the car, which was stolen from Centenary Heights, Toowoomba.
At the time, Cubby was on parole for the same crime.
In February he was involved in a wild police chase, days after he was released from prison.
On that occasion, Cubby and three other young men went on a joy ride in multiple stolen cars which started at Toowoomba and ended at Millmerran after police deployed tyre spikes on February 7.
In April Cubby pleaded guilty to unlawful use, stealing, trespassing, and entering a dwelling with intent to commit a crime.
After spending 78 days in pre-sentence custody, he was sentenced to a nine month prison term with immediate release.
Within a month, the undeterred petty criminal was back causing havoc within the community.
Senior Constable Weir said the new unlawful use charge was from some time between April and June, however Cubby was serving time for similar crimes committed during the same time frame and was sentenced to a 12 month prison term in June.
In Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday morning, September 18, Cubby pleaded guilty to an unlawful use charge via videolink from prison.
Magistrate Clare Kelly noted Cubby had spent 105 days in custody, which was a significant portion of his overall sentence.
She declared it as time served and sentenced Cubby to a six month concurrent jail term.
He will be eligible for parole next month, November 5, 2023.
