A fourth man who was in an allegedly stolen car that was tracked by police through the Toowoomba region has appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on 16 charges, just days after he allegedly abandoned three of his mates to be caught by authorities.
Kyaharlem Hazard remained in the watch house when his matters were mentioned in court on Thursday with his solicitor Claire Graham, of Skuse Graham Lawyers, telling the court his parole had been suspended.
Ms Graham asked for a four-week adjournment to apply for Legal Aid funding and take instructions for her client.
There was no application for bail and Hazard was remanded in custody with his case set down for next mention in the same court on March 9.
The 19-year-old was charged with a litany of offences following a two-day operation that covered large parts of the Darling Downs and allegedly featured at least four stolen vehicles.
Detectives will allege a stolen vehicle from Augustine Heights in Ipswich was tracked from Toowoomba to Millmerran on Tuesday where tyre spikes were used.
Three men were taken into custody and charged, but Hazard allegedly left his mates at the scene in a stolen white Toyota HiLux.
That vehicle was located on the Barwon Highway at Toobeah just before 1pm on Wednesday.
After extensive investigations police tracked a Ford Ranger, allegedly stolen from Mobandilla near Goondiwindi at 2pm.
Tyre spikes were used on two different highways to finally bring the vehicle to a halt, where it was abandoned on the Gore Highway at Pittsworth.
Police will then allege the 19-year-old stole a light truck from a Scrubby Mountain property, which officers tracked until it was spiked on the Gore Highway at Athol.
The vehicle came to a stop at Westbrook a short time later, with the man finally taken into custody.
He was charged with five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and enter premises and commit indictable offence, two counts of enter dwelling and commit and one count each of trespass, stealing and driving without a licence.
He will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Police hunt for fourth offender over stolen HiLux
Police are on the hunt for a thief who they say abandoned his mate and stole a Toyota HiLux after a Polair tracked them from Toowoomba to Millmerran.
It is alleged four men were observed in a stolen 4WD as it drove on the wrong side of the road in Griffith Street, Toowoomba about 5pm.
The vehicle had been stolen from an Augustine Heights address earlier that day.
With the help of Polair, police tracked the vehicle to Millmerran where officers successfully spiked its tyres about an hour later.
The vehicle was abandoned in Campbell Street with four men allegedly leaving the scene on foot.
Police allege the offenders entered a nearby home and one man stole a 2021 Toyota HiLux dual cab utility.
His co-accused were arrested and held in custody overnight to face the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Kamahl Jeremy Scott Duncan, 21, is charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent and enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Lachlan Connor Cubby, 20, is charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent, attempted stealing and trespass.
Elijah Bligh, 18, is charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of enter dwelling with intent and enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
A Toowoomba court duty lawyer, who appeared on behalf of Mr Cubby on Wednesday morning, said he did not intend to make a bail application.
The court heard the teenager intended to plead guilty to stealing the car and breaking into the home.
In regards to the other charges, no guilty plea was indicated as Mr Cubby’s legal team requested CCTV evidence from police prosecution.
He was remanded in custody and his matter will next be before the court on March 1.
The court heard Mr Duncan was remanded in custody and there was a possibility he would be transferred from the watch house to jail.
Defence lawyer Claire Graham said Mr Duncan was on parole at the time of the alleged offence and her office was waiting on information from the corrections office on whether or not Mr Duncan’s parole would be revoked.
Mr Duncan’s matter was adjourned for one day, to be mentioned on Thursday, February 9.
Investigations are ongoing and anyone who observes a suspicious 2021 white Toyota HiLux should contact police.
