Drink drivers: Paramedic and former private school head boy face court
The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard a range of excuses for why these people were drink-driving. But none of those excuses got them off the hook.

Man left crash scene
A QUEENSLAND Ambulance Service staff member has been fined $800 after he pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving.
The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard yesterday that John Leonardo Keith Cameron crashed in Wentworth Street about 8.15pm on March 27.
Police Prosecutor Chris Willson said Cameron attempted to walk away from the scene but was stopped by witnesses who alerted police.
Cameron was arrested after a blood-alcohol test returned a reading of 0.140 per cent.
Magistrate Kay Ryan issued a fine and disqualified Cameron from driving for three months.
Mrs Ryan did not record the conviction, noting Cameron would likely be subject to disciplinary action from the QAS.
Costly hangover
Former Toowoomba Grammar School head boy Daniel Graham Cover lost his licence for one month after he pleaded guilty to low-range drink driving.
The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard today that Cover was in St George to celebrate a 21st birthday party on April 2.
Police prosecutor Chris Willson said officers intercepted Cover on Victoria Street, about 11.15am the next day.
They issued a roadside breath test that returned a reading of 0.06 per cent.
Cover’s lawyer Nicolas Smith told the court his client through he was oaky to driver after eating breakfast and drinking plenty of water earlier that day.
Magistrate Kay Ryan noted that Cover had no traffic history.
“We call this the morning after the night before,” she said.
“These things do happen so you have to be careful.”
Cover was disqualified from driving for one month and fined $350, with no conviction recorded.
Officer charged
A MALE senior constable will face the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on June 15 charged with low-range drink driving.
It is alleged the officer, who works in the Crime and Intelligence Command, was off duty when he was charged over drink driving.
