Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told a rowdy bar patron had to be detained by security, however the man’s night got significantly worse once police arrived on the scene.

Police prosecutor Bettina Trenear said officers got a call about an alleged public nuisance incident involving Darryl John Green at the front of Bodega on July 29, 2023.

Ms Trenear said when officers arrived, Green was already detained.

She said the construction worker was told he would be searched before he was taken to the watch house, which prompted Green to declare he had two joints in a pocket.

Police also found a small knife in a different pocket.

At the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, August 28, Green pleaded guilty to possessing drugs and a knife in a public place.

The court was told Green had a very dated criminal history, and he took the small amount of cannabis with him on a night out, “out of habit”.

Acting magistrate Lisa O’Neil fined him $400.

No conviction was recorded.
