Cops bust Toowoomba topless waiter with party drugs

A night out in Toowoomba ended in a date with the courthouse for an up-and-coming business owner after he was caught with a pocket full of ‘nose candy’.

Toowoomba police are continuing to pull partygoers off the streets of the CBD after they are caught acting suspiciously on the city center’s surveillance system.

Business owner and hospitality worker Dylan John Edwards was partying into the early hours of Sunday morning, August 13, when he came to the attention of officers.

Police prosecutor Bettina Trenear said Edwards was with a group of people acting suspiciously on Russell Street.

She said police had reason to believe Edwards had drugs on him, and when detained for a search, he came clean and said he had cocaine in his wallet.

Dylan John Edwards was busted with a bag of cocaine while partying in Toowoomba CBD.

The cocaine weighed .4 of a gram – which included the clip-seal bag it was in.

When questioned by police, Edwards said he bought the powder a week prior, from someone while he was at a hotel in Toowoomba’s CBD.

When Edwards fronted Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, August 28, he represented himself and pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs.

He told the court he recently started his own business with a friend, and on the night, he made a poor decision while out drinking.

Acting magistrate Lisa O’Neil noted Edwards had no criminal history and hoped he took heed of the “wake-up call”.

“I know our community has a very high tolerance for illicit drug use, but if you sit in the back of the court you will see most of the people come, regardless of the offence, (with) offending that is often related to drug use,” she warned.

“Do you understand? It is the road to ruin.”

Edwards was fined $300 and had no conviction recorded.
