An Oakey man was re-sentenced in court after he breached a suspended sentence that was imposed after he attacked his heavily pregnant partner on multiple occasions.

The Toowoomba Magistrate Court heard Darrell Peter Hiles had no explanation or excuses for his behaviour, or insight as to why it was escalating at the detriment of his then long-term partner, and mother of his two children.

At the courthouse on Monday, August 14, the 22-year-old pleaded guilty to a handful of charges, which included stealing a puppy during a break-in, activating his suspended sentence.

The court heard the probation order was made after Darrell pleaded guilty to attacking the woman.

On one occasion the woman was in bed when Darrell forced his way into the room, wrestled a phone from her hand, and continuously punched her in the head until a family member was forced to intervene.

The court heard another assault occurred in public, where Hiles pushed the heavily pregnant woman over, and when she got to her feet he then punched her in the back.

The woman tried to scream, however Hiles tried to muffle it with his hand before punching her in the face.

During his sentence, Magistrate Louise Shephard said the powder coater was subjected to domestic violence from a young age and that intoxication contributed to his offending.

He was sentenced to a 12 month prison order for the fresh crimes and re-sentenced to six months for the assault and probation breach.

The three days he spent in the watch-house were declared as time served and he was given immediate parole.

The terms of imprisonment will run concurrently.
