Clayton Bligh fronts Toowoomba court for involvement in Mt Kynoch home invasion

NAMED: Toowoomba police were successful in ensuring an alleged Toowoomba car thief remained in custody after a local man was allegedly threatened at knifepoint by a group of men. Here’s what happened in court.

A young man allegedly a part of a group of people who attempted to steal a car inside a Mt Kynoch garage, while armed with an array of weapons, had his bail application refused.

Clayton Kraig Bligh appeared at the Toowoomba Magistrates via video link from the watch house on Friday afternoon, May 12, on the following charges; attempted robbery/threaten violence/armed/in company, entering a home to commit an indictable offence, stealing, and the unlawful use of two cars.

Magistrate Clare Kelly said given Mr Bligh’s criminal history and the seriousness of the allegations, he may pose a risk to the community if released.

Police allege 23-year-old and three associates arrived at the Toowoomba home in a stolen car, before entering through a garage and attempting to steal another, however they were confronted by the owner.

The group are alleged to have been armed with a machete, knife, and baseball bat, however the court heard of all the complainants Bligh’s alleged crimes were the least serious.

The court heard during an altercation with the owner one of Mr Bligh’s associates threatened to kill the man.

“Stab the mother---ker,” one of the offenders exclaimed during the failed carjacking.

The man was remanded in custody and his case will next be before the court on June 30.
