Toowoomba police are searching for a mob of offenders who went armed to a Mt Kynoch home and attempted to steal the occupant’s vehicle.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said a group of offenders are alleged to have arrived at the Mt Kynoch address on Thursday afternoon in a Mazda CX3 that was stolen from a Wyalla address.
“At the time the resident was home and their vehicle was in the garage and unlocked,” he said.
“The complainant was alerted by their dog barking and then heard their vehicle start.”
Police will allege the complainant went to their garage and observed a male in the driver’s seat of their vehicle.
They also saw a number of people in the front yard and police will allege one of them approached the complainant while armed with a knife and made threats.
“Police will allege that at least two others were holding machetes and making threats to kill the complainant,” Sgt McCusker said.
Despite the armed confrontation, the group were unable to steal the car and fled in the Mazda CX3.
It is understood the male behind the wheel crashed the vehicle in the garage and fled.
Sgt McCusker said police swarmed on the address and later located a 23-year-old male who was in possession of a baseball bat.
Meanwhile, the Mazda CX3 was involved in a crash and abandoned in Kearneys Springs on Hoey Street, about 5.30pm.
“Police are aware of the other individuals involved in this matter and are working to locate them,” Sgt McCusker said.
The 23-year-old man was held in custody overnight and will face the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday charged with two counts of break and enter, and one count each of attempted armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary.
Anyone with information about the offence is urged to phone Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
