We reveal our Toowoomba cricket team of the week for round 1

After 14 action-packed games featuring more than 300 players in action, we have narrowed down our round 1 Toowoomba cricket team of the week. See who made the list from your club here.

There were some sensational individual efforts from the opening round of the Toowoomba cricket season.

From lethal bowling spells, to powerful knocks with the bat, the stars of the TCI were out in full force on the weekend.

After an action-packed weekend of fixtures we have named our senior team of the week for Round 1, with five batters, an all-rounder, a wicketkeeper and four bowlers, as well as a 12th man.

1. Hugo Cavanagh (Met-Easts Gold, B-grade)

Cavanagh is the first opener on this list after his dominant performance at the top of the order for the Trojans. 

The young gun was a force to be reckoned with as he torched the University bowling attack, scoring 171 runs from 116 balls, hitting 22 fours and four sixes along the way.

2. Connor Walker (University, A-grade)

There was incredible competition for the opening spots, with centurion players missing out on the team completely due to the class of these two openers.

Walker was on fire for University, as he scored an electric 105 runs from 86 balls.

3. David Kenway (Northern Brothers Diggers Blue, B-grade)

Kenway comes in at number three in our dream team after his incredible performance at first drop for the Dragons. Highfields started strongly with the ball, picking up a couple of early wickets to have Northern Brothers at 2-39.

However, Kenway flipped the game on its head as he took on the Bulldogs bowling attack to score 118 runs from just 67 balls.

He operated at a strike-rate of 176.11 and hit eight fours and an unbelievable 11 sixes.

4. Lachlan Muggleton (Met-Easts Gold, B-grade)

Muggleton comes in at number four thanks to his impressive run-a-ball century that completely turned the tides of the contest.

The game was in the balance when he made his way out to the middle at 1-18, but Muggleton combined with Cavanagh for a blistering 245-run second-wicket partnership.

5. Paul York (Highfields, C-grade)

In at third drop is Paul York after his impressive showing in the middle order for the Bulldogs.

York scored an unbeaten 77 runs from 64 balls, hitting two fours and six maximums along the way.

6. Daniel Pollock (Met-Easts, A-grade)

There was a tough battle for the all-rounder’s spot this week, with Daniel Pollock, Brian May and Darcy Shelton all putting in strong performances with the bat and ball.

However, Pollock narrowly earns a spot as this week’s designated all-rounder after his stunning performance in the Trojans’ thrilling win over Souths.

With the bat, the Met-Easts captain scored an impressive 72 runs from 95 balls and guided his side to a competitive 6-224 batting first.

With the ball, he took 3-52 from nine overs, including two maidens.

7. Lachlan Ottobrino (Wests, Reserve grade)

Ottobrino earns a spot in this week’s side as the wicketkeeper after impressive performance with the gloves.

The young gun took two catches and made two stumpings, then also scored a quickfire 16 runs from nine balls with the bat.

8. Kahlem Reardon (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

Reardon is the first bowler in this week’s dream team after producing an unforgettable spell of bowling.

With 6-19 from eight overs and three maidens, there was little Souths batters could do to stop Reardon in his wrath.

9. Brendan Ziebell (Northern Brothers Diggers Blue, B-grade)

The second bowler in the team is Brendan Ziebell after his five-wicket haul for Northern Brothers.

The B-grade gun took 5-23 from seven overs, with all five of his wickets coming from the top five batters in the Highfields line-up.

10. Dev Trivedi (Uni Phoenix, C-grade)

Trivedi was the other player who took a five-fa on the weekend as he took 5-24 from five overs, which included a wicket-maiden in an electric spell.

11. Tomas Crump (Northern Brothers Diggers Gold, C-grade)

The final bowler in the team is young gun Tomas Crump who put in an impressive performance against Met-Easts.

He took 4-17 from seven overs as the Dragons bowled the Trojans out for just 69 runs.

12th man. Brian May (Wests, A-grade)

Brian May is the unfortunate star to narrowly miss out on a spot in the starting 11.

His unbeaten 98 runs was not quite enough to earn him selection at number three or number four.

While he took 2-6 with the ball, he was unable to knock Pollock out of the all-rounder’s spot.
