A Cody Lutchterhand masterclass set up a dominant Toowoomba Rangers grand final win at the weekend.

The Rangers pitcher was unplayable throwing 73 pitches for 53 strikes and giving away just three hits in his side’s 13-3 Greater Brisbane League Division 4 win over Mt Gravatt on Sunday.

Toowoomba player and president Steve Metzroth said Luchterhand’s MVP performance was one of the best pitching displays he’s ever seen.

“Cody threw an absolute gem of a game from start to finish,” he said.

“He had command of his pitches all day, throwing both fastballs and off pace deliveries, hitting the areas he aimed for.

“It was the best I’ve ever seen him pitch.”

Rangers wrapped up the Division 4 grand final just six innings into the nine innings game.

With Rangers holding a 10-run lead, GBL officials enacted the ‘mercy rule’ to bring the game to an early end.

“It was an unexpected result but a welcome one,” Metzroth said.

“We’ve had a few battles with those (Eagles) guys over the years, so it was nice to put up a good show.

“The boys all put in a good showing and we played together, but the standout was definitely Cody (Luchterhand).

TJ had a strong game for us and it was also such a cool way for Darryl (Luchterhand) to go out, with a premiership in his 701st game.”
