Hockey Queensland has issued a stark ‘zero tolerance’ warning to any members who breach its code of conduct.

The governing body’s warning comes as Toowoomba Hockey Association continues to investigate an official complaint made after a match.

Players and spectators were left shocked and upset by an alleged racist remark directed at juniors during a game on May 11.

In a statement THA said the investigation was ongoing and if any parties were found to have breached their code of conduct they would be punished accordingly.

“The Toowoomba Hockey Association (THA) can confirm that the investigation into the reported allegation during a junior match is still ongoing.

“We are committed to handling this matter with the care and respect it deserves, and we continue to work closely with all relevant parties to ensure the process is fair, thorough, and in line with both THA and Hockey Queensland’s values and behavioural standards.

“THA takes all allegations of this nature extremely seriously, and we remain committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment across our sport for all players, families, officials, and supporters.

“Once the investigation has concluded, appropriate outcomes will be communicated to the relevant individuals, and any necessary actions will be taken to uphold the integrity and wellbeing of our hockey community.”

Hockey Queensland declined to comment on any specifics regarding the complaint and subsequent investigation but said it would not tolerate ‘abuse or discrimination, including racism, on and off the field’.

“Hockey Queensland is committed to maintaining an inclusive and respectful environment for all players, officials, and spectators involved in our sport,” the statement read.

“We uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of abuse or discrimination, including racism, on and off the field.

“While we are aware of recent allegations involving inappropriate language during a junior match, we are unable to comment on specifics regarding disciplinary proceedings to ensure the confidentiality and protection of the individuals involved.

“Hockey Queensland remains steadfast in our dedication to fostering a community where diversity is celebrated and everyone feels safe and respected.

“We continue to work closely with our associations to educate and promote the values of respect, fairness, and inclusion.”
