With Toowoomba Bears ‘raising a glass’ to another successful Ladies Day event – union fans were treated to some champagne footy at the weekend.
At home to Dalby Wheatmen, the Bears picked up wins in A and B-Grade.
Allister Cameron was the star of the show in the B-Grade Bill Flamsteed Cup.
The flying fullback, who scored a double, was ultimately the difference between the two sides with Bears securing a 20-13 win.
The A-Grade clash was a thrilling affair with just three points separating the two sides.
Second only to the Goondiwindi Emus, the Wheatmen have a been a force to be reckoned with all season and posed a major challenge to fifth-placed Bears.
Veteran Bears playmaker William Jackson guided his team home with his boot.
With both teams scoring three tries apiece – Jackson’s two conversions and two penalties helped seal a 25-22 win for Bears.
Funds raised from Bears annual Ladies Day event are donated directly to Protea Place.
“Rallying behind and supporting organisations like Protea Place is very important to us,” Bears club president Bruce McConnel said.
“It’s very disappointing that despite the best efforts, despite the increased awareness, that incidents of domestic violence continue to rise.
“As a club we want to confront this issue, and being able to support organisations like Protea Place is something we are proud of.”
