The 2022 TRL Premiership has seen some big names change clubs and have an immediate impact in new threads.
As we get closer to the finals series, The Chronicle looks at the 21 best signings of the season that have had the biggest influence on their new clubs.
In no particular order, here are our best signings of 2022.
AUSTIN JENNINGS
Someone with his ability was always going to thrive outside Travis Burns and Matt Duggan, and he’s done just that for Wattles.
Up to 29 tries for the season including a TRL record haul of nine just a few weeks ago.
REGAN WILDE
Forming an incredible partnership alongside Haydan Lipp at Gatton.
The Ipswich halfback is the organiser to Lipp’s flair, and with the chance to work behind a big forward pack, Wilde has made many people take notice in this competition.
BYRON CREIGHTON
The former Queensland Cup player was a good get for the Cowboys and his class has been on show throughout the year.
Can play at hooker or lock and has a knack for finding the tryline, sitting in second for the club.
AARON HOOPER
We’ve seen him at a few clubs, but Hooper looks right at home in the green and gold.
In a high-powered offence, he is a classy finisher that can finish off outside some classy halves, tallying 14 meat pies for the season.
CHRIS WOODBRIDGE
Had some big shoes to fill in the Goondiwindi #1 jersey but has certainly done that well this year.
A real star of the future, Woodbridge has slotted into the Boars side well and relishing playing alongside the likes of David McGrady.
BEN WHITE
Brings a wealth of experience to the Gatton side and is a big reason for their place in the Madsen-Rasmussen final.
A big-game player who does all the hard yards and will be vital come finals time.
BRENTON CLEMENT
Came to Highfields with brother Carl and hasn’t looked back.
Has played multiple positions in the backline and looked great at fullback in the Madsen-Rasmussen, but now finds himself in the centres with the return of Jarrod Lee at the back.
CARL CLEMENT
Filled the gap left by big Darcy Maroske and is showing he is up to the task.
Been one of the most consistent performers for the Eagles this year and continually gets through a mountain of work in the front row.
LEEVAI SUTTON
One of the many new faces at Oakey and has given them speed and size out on the flank.
A real talent that can play fullback as well, found his home on the wing in this side and has been rewarded with a fair few tries in recent times.
SIONE LOPAMAUA
We saw what he could do at Newtown last year and he’s taken that to a new level at the Bears.
A strong-running back-rower who has performed so well on an edge and a forwards leader.
JAZZ NAMANA
Putting his hat in the ring for the title of buy of the year and is relishing the responsibility at Oakey.
Finds himself among the leading pointscorers for the Webcke-Price Medal on the string of a consistent season.
JOE MU’A
Was always going to have an impact for a team like Dalby and has done just that.
One of the most explosive players in the competition on his day, Mu’a has been a welcome addition to the forward pack and has helped them excel to a likely finals tilt.
SAUNDA SEUMANUTAFA
Has the potential to be classed among the best back rowers in the competition.
Seumanutafa has the speed, size and skills necessary for a top-line player, and that’s been on full display for the Diehards in 2022.
DENMAN AH-YOU
One of the real surprise packets of the season so far.
We didn’t know too much about Ah-You, but he has turned in a few best on ground performances for Dalby and has added a new dimension to the engine room.
BEN COOK
While the year hasn’t gone to plan for Souths, the addition of Ben Cook has been a positive one for the club.
Lost his halves partner before the season started but has helped guide this young side on their path to success.
JORDAN CROCKER
Has slotted into the Wattles engine room very nicely as the team continues to roll on.
Really suits their up-tempo style of play and has done a great job in getting on the front foot for the backs to work their magic. An unsung hero.
DECLAN WHEELER
Made the move from playing rugby union in recent years and is very well suited in the 13-a-side game.
Another that has been forced to cover a few positions due to injuries, but is versatile and adds flair to the side.
ZAC STEVENS
Another new face at Wattles that is giving them a real punch off the interchange bench.
Stevens can fill a few roles in the forward pack and looks set to play a key role in maintaining that energy for a finals run.
DANIEL JENNINGS
Showed up at Brothers to start the season and is making the centre jersey his own with a string of good performances.
Such a strong runner of the ball and adds a real element of class to a building roster.
AARON SILLITOE
While Pittsworth hasn’t enjoyed the best of seasons so far, Sillitoe has been a solid performer on the wing.
He’s managed to get across the line a few times and adds a big body out wide for the Danes.
JOEL CURRIE
Was seen at Goondiwindi before Covid struck and has been a regular in the halves at Valleys this year.
Has had a few different halves partners throughout 2022 but has done a good job of being a steadying influence on the side.
