Star prop Emry Pere signs for the Western Clydesdales

The Western Clydesdales have announced a host of new signings for the 2024 Hostplus Cup campaign with a former North Queensland Cowboys prop set to replace inaugural captain Darryn Schonig.

Emry Pere was a pivotal prop for the Burleigh Bears Hostplus Cup team which claimed the minor premiership and made the grand final this year and headlines the latest string of signings by the Clydesdales.

After developing through the North Queensland Cowboys ranks, Pere made his NRL debut in 2020, playing two games for the Townsville outfit.

The 25-year-old is a booming presence in the middle and brings elite-level experience.

Pere has notched up 82 appearances in the Hostplus Cup since his debut in 2018.

Last season, he made 187 tackles in 13 games with an efficiency of 96.9 per cent.

He will be joined by former New Zealand Warriors hooker, Taniela Otukolo, who played nine NRL games between 2021 and 2022.

In addition to these two, there are another 26 players signed on for next season with Denzel Burns, Tahj Amone, Mitchell Leard-Lamonth, Luke Jurd, Tareq Porter, Nicholas Toeava, Lawrence Ualesi, Connor Williams and Amaani Vercoe-Aoina the other new additions to the squad.

They will be joined by returning players, Blake Lenehan, Brock Diment, Cooper Howlett, Drew Timms, Esom Ioka, Jerome Taulaga, Luke Rouland, Neihana Oldham, Patrick O’Callaghan, Takai Mokohar, Todd White and Tui Oloapu suiting up for the Clydesdales again next season.

Additionally, there are five young players who will make the step up from the junior squads with Braden Leigh, Darcy Carswell, Kaden Buhse, Flynn Kaiser-Capewell and Brock Patti earning spots in the Hostplus Cup side.
