Two Western Clydesdales stars are set for the opportunity of a lifetime after being selected to represent the Cook Islands for the Pacific Championships which kick off this weekend.
Takai Mokohar and Esom Ioka are members of the Cook Islands squad which is set to face-off with Papua New Guinea this Sunday in the first round of the Pacific Bowl.
Clydesdales CEO Shane Sullivan said it shows that the club has pathways to higher honours and was excited to see what the pair would bring back to the team after the experience.
Meanwhile Clydesdales head coach Jason Alchin was proud to see his players take on the opportunity.
“I think it is great for the region and the club, I am very happy and proud of them,” he said.
Ioka and Mokohar will be coached by former Brisbane Broncos fullback Karmichael Hunt with Alchin saying it would be a great experience for the boys to learn from Hunt.
Alchin also believed this would inspire the rest of the side seeing the players earn representative honours.
“I think it is great that they are doing this. it is a great thing for everyone, the staff, the players and the supporters,” he said.
