We name our TCI combined A and Reserve Grade Team of the Week

There were some stellar performances across A-grade and Reserve grade in round 7 of the Toowoomba cricket season. See who made our team of the week here.

The Chronicle’s Toowoomba cricket team of the week is back after another entertaining round in A and Reserve grade.

Across the six games, there were several players who stepped up and made their presence felt.

The team consists of five batters, a wicketkeeper, an all-rounder and four bowlers.

Check out the round 7 team below.

1. Luke Guymer (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

The Northern Brothers Diggers opener scored a stellar 82 runs off just 61 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes along the way.

On top of this, he also chipped in with three wickets in a fine all-round performance.

2. Gavin Steger (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

This week’s opening spots have been swept by the Dragons’ reserve grade as Gavin Steger takes the second opener’s spot after scoring an impressive 78 runs.

His classy performance included 10 fours and two maximums as he and Guymer combined for a 167-run partnership.

3. Brian May (Western Districts, A-grade)

With his sixth half century in 10 matches this season, May takes the number three spot on this list after he scored an unbeaten 61 off 84 balls to guide Wests to victory against Met-Easts.

4. Brandon Walker (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)

Walker comes in at four and is this week’s wicketkeeper after he scored a superb 80 runs off 99 balls and took two catches.

5. Daniel Pollock (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Pollock carried the Met-Easts innings as he scored a solid 60 runs off 53 balls.

With 10 fours and one six, he was at his blistering best but ultimately went after one too many as he was bowled attempting a slog-sweep.

6. Stuart Keene (Souths, Reserve grade)

Keene’s explosive century earns him the number six spot in this week’s team.

With the Magpies dwindling at 5-33, Keene rescued the innings with a staggering 113 off 90 balls, which included 19 boundaries.

7. Alistair McKay (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

McKay is the specialist all-rounder after his cracking performance with bat and ball.

With the ball, he set the tone for the Trojans as he took 3-22 off six overs.

He then backed it up in the second innings, where he scored a solid 55 off 82 balls.

8. Matthew Hallas (Western Districts, A-grade)

Hallas is the first of the bowlers in this week’s team after he ripped through the Met-Easts batting line-up in the top of the table clash.

The pace bowler took 5-21 to set up the victory for the Warriors.

9. Joseph Roberts (University, Reserve grade)

Roberts was in fine form as he took 4-33 in University’s victory over Souths.

10. Will Titterton (Western Districts, Reserve grade)

Titterton’s impressive run of form continued on Saturday as he spearheaded the Warriors’ bowling attack with four wickets.

However, it was not enough for his side to claim victory as the Trojans chased down the 168 needed for victory with 22 balls to spare.

11. Ruvith Karunarathne (Souths, A-grade)

Karunarathne showed his class as he took 3-28 in the Magpies’ win over Uni.

12th man. Jeremy Tighe (Highfields, Reserve grade)

This week’s 12th man is Jeremy Tighe, after he made solid contributions with bat and ball.

Tighe scored 52 runs off 59 balls and also chipped in with two wickets.

Round 6

1. Kris Glass (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)

Glass takes the first opener spot in this week’s side after his damaging 122 to guide his side to victory against the previously undefeated Warriors.

It was a stunning display as he scored 70 per cent of his side’s runs.

2. Ben Brocherie (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Brocherie’s stunning form continued on Saturday as he scored an unbeaten 94 off 105 balls to guide the Trojans to victory.

Souths had no answer for the Met-Easts opener as he blasted 12 fours and one six.

3. Dean Sullivan (University, A-grade)

Sullivan comes in at first drop and is also the wicketkeeper for this week’s team after his classy knock against Highfields.

Batting at three, he scored 93 runs off 90 balls and smashed five sixes and 11 fours along the way.

4. Brian May (Wests, A-grade)

May’s stellar season continued on the weekend as he scored an unbeaten 74 against Northern Brothers.

Ultimately it was not enough as the Dragons chased down the Warriors’ target with more than six overs to spare.

5. George Casey (Highfields, A-grade)

Casey was the star for Highfields as the Bulldogs claimed their first win of the season at USQ Oval.

With 218 needed to win, Casey was a pivotal figure in the middle order as he scored an unbeaten 68 off 85 to help his side claim a three-wicket win with two balls to spare.

6. John Littleproud (University, Reserve grade)

Littleproud comes in at six after his solid 42 runs off 60 balls.

7. Kahlem Reardon (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

Reardon is this week’s all-rounder after his impressive performance with bat and ball.

With the bat, he scored a handy 49 runs off 64 balls which included eight boundaries and took 2-11 with the ball.

8. Declan Pickard (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

Pickard is the first of the bowlers on this week’s list after his very handy 3-19 which included four maidens.

9. Daniel Pollock (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Pollock is the second bowler on this list after he took 3-31 against the Magpies.

10. Matt Johnston (University, A-grade)

Johnston put in a solid shift with the ball as he took 3-54 in his side’s narrow defeat to the Bulldogs.

11. Lachlan Gersch (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

The final spot in the 11 goes to Lachlan Gersch, after he put in a near faultless performance with the ball.

Gersch took 2-7 off eight overs and operated at an incredibly tidy economy rate of just 0.87 runs per over.

12th man. Ben Anderson (Highfields, A-grade)

Anderson is this week’s 12th man after he played a key role in his side’s victory against Uni.

The Highfields batter smashed seven boundaries as he scored a quickfire 39 off just 19 balls.

1. Tully Willson (University, A-grade)

Willson is the first opener this week after his impressive 59 off 66 against Northern Brothers.

Striking at 89.39, the Uni batter withstood the new ball and kept the runs ticking over with a classy batting display.

2. Gurnoor Singh Randhawa (Souths, A-grade)

Randhawa remained unfazed by wickets falling around him as he scored an impressive 70 runs off 99 balls and is the second opener in this week’s dream team.

3. Ben Brocherie (Met-Easts, A-grade)

The Trojans’ A-grade captain comes in at first drop after his unbeaten 50 off 46 balls against Highfields.

Brocherie showed his class and power as he hit five fours and two maximums.

4. Ben Kahler (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

Kahler takes the number four and wicketkeeper’s spot in this week’s team after he scored a blistering century in Reserve grade.

The Met-Easts batter scored 105 runs off just 76 balls at a crushing strike-rate of 138.15.

Kahler’s skill and strength was on full show as he hit 10 fours and an impressive five sixes.

5. Liam Brown (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

Brown comes in at five after his neat half century which helped turn the tide of the contest back into Met-Easts’ favour.

Coming in at 3-77, he combined with Kahler for a 138-run fourth wicket partnership to deal a heavy blow to Highfields’ hopes of an upset.

6. John Littleproud (University, Reserve grade)

Littleproud takes the final specialist batter spot in this week’s team after his 45 runs off 59 balls which helped University to a narrow win over Northern Brothers Diggers.

7. Aidan Watterson (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)

Arguably one of the most in-form all-rounders in Toowoomba, Aidan Watterson makes his third appearance in the team of the week this season after another classy display with bat and ball.

The Dragons captain was the top-performer in A-grade this week as he scored a rapid 46 runs off 38 and also took four wickets.

Watterson’s 46 included seven fours and one six as he smashed his runs at a handy strike-rate of 121.05.

8. Hayden Campbell (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Campbell is the first of the bowlers on this list as he took 4-24 off seven overs to make it nine wickets in two games for the young pace bowler.

9. Hunter Payne (University, A-grade)

Payne earns a spot in this week’s team after his clutch performance with the ball which gave Uni a nailbiting win over the Dragons.

The Uni bowler took 3-39 and took the matchwinning wicket off the penultimate ball of the game to give his side a one run victory.

10. Ajay Kumar (Souths, Reserve grade)

Kumar gave opposition batters absolutely nothing as he took 4-21 off 7.2 overs at a tidy economy rate of 2.86 runs per over.

11. Declan Pickard (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

Pickard takes the final spot in the 11 after his electric two-over spell.

The Northern Brothers bowler took 4-4 and almost single-handedly won the game for his side.

Pickard claimed four wickets in the 27th over and found himself on a hat-trick.

However, Uni held on to claim a two-wicket win the following over.

12th man. Ash Benham (University, Reserve grade)

Ash Benham is this week’s 12th man after his impressive cameo with bat and ball for Uni.

With the ball, he took 2-18 off seven overs and then backed it up with a handy 37 runs off just 22 balls to help University claim victory.

Round 4

1. Aaron Convery (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)

The young Northern Brothers opener continues to shine as he carried his bat to score an unbeaten 63 in his side’s successful run chase.

Convery has now scored 202 runs this season at an impressive average of 67.1.

2. Ben Brocherie (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Opening the batting alongside Convery this week is Ben Brocherie, who scored a scintillating century against Uni.

The Trojans captain blasted his way to 128 off 94 balls and hit a massive 21 boundaries, including three sixes.

3. Brett Bizzell (Highfields, Reserve grade)

Bizzell comes in at first drop this week after his brave performance where he scored an unbeaten 84 in difficult conditions.

With wickets falling around him, Bizzell held his nerve to push on and helped his side reach 7-174 at the conclusion of their 40 overs.

4. Baxter Tzannes (Souths, Reserve grade)

A cracking 74 off 91 was enough for Tzannes to make this week’s team after he led the Magpies to a competitive total against Northern Brothers Diggers.

Ultimately his efforts were not enough as the Dragons surged home to complete the run chase in the 38th over with five wickets in hand.

5. Dean Fry (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Fry was a class above in the middle order as he brought up his century on the penultimate ball of the innings against Uni.

After combining with opener Brocherie for a 147-run partnership, Fry pushed on in the final overs with six boundaries off his last 19 balls to finish unbeaten on 101 off 82 balls.

6. Corey Dioth (Western Districts, A-grade)

Dioth takes this week’s all-rounder spot after his stunning performance with bat and ball.

Coming in at 4-41, the Warriors were in all sorts of trouble batting first but Dioth steadied the ship to help them reach 7-211 at the end of the 40 overs.

The all-rounder was unbeaten on 98 at the end of the first innings then made his presence felt with the ball as he took 2-4 off just one over.

7. Daniel Robinson (Western Districts, A-grade)

With 61 runs and a catch, Robinson is the wicketkeeper for the round 4 team.

Robinson helped save the Warriors’ inning with the bat alongside Dioth as the pair combined for a 135-run fifth wicket partnership.

8. Ryan Ward (Western Districts, A-grade)

Ward is the first of the bowlers on this team after he was conservative and lethal with the ball.

The Western Districts bowler took 4-17 off seven overs at an economy rate if just 2.42 runs per over.

9. Hayden Campbell (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Campbell ripped through the Uni batting line-up as he took 5-47 to help the Trojans claim an 85-run win.

10. Jason Randell (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

Randell put in a strong performance with the ball as he took 3-17 off eight overs at a tidy 2.12 runs per over.

11. Ruvith Karunarathne (Souths, A-grade)

Batting at number 11, Karunarathne combined for a 42-run last wicket partnership before making his impact with the ball.

The Souths bowler took 3-19 off eight overs in an impressive consolation effort after his side was outplayed by Northern Brothers Diggers.

12th man. Grant Spies (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

Spies is this week’s 12th man after his matchwinning effort for the Dragons.

He dismissed the dangerous Angrej Singh for 56 before scoring 41 runs off 33 balls to win the game with 16 balls to spare

Round 3

1. Daniel Pollock (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Pollock was the shining light in an otherwise disappointing performance with the bat from the Trojans.

The A-grade opener scored a classy 66 runs while several wickets fell around him.

2. Nicholas Sheedy (Western Districts, Reserve grade)

The second opening batter in this week’s team almost single-handedly claimed victory for the Warriors on Saturday.

Batting first, Sheedy put the Uni bowlers to the sword as he smashed his way to 72 runs off 66 balls, hitting 13 boundaries along the way.

He also made his presence felt with the ball as he took three quick wickets to give Wests a nailbiting six-run win.

3. Brian May (Western Districts, A-grade)

May comes in at first drop after he hit an elegant 64 runs off 91 balls against University.

4. Andrew Young (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

Young showed patience and precision in the middle as he scored 63 runs off 114 balls.

5. Gavin Steger (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

Steger was the matchwinner for the Dragons as he scored an unbeaten 57 off 80 balls.

Coming in at 3-42, Steger was under immense pressure with his side chasing 166 for victory.

However, he showed his leadership as he carried his side to a two-wicket win over Met-Easts.

6. Aidan Watterson (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)

Watterson takes this week’s all-rounder spot after his stellar performance with bat and ball.

The Dragons’ A-grade captain scored 45 runs with the bat and backed it up with figures of 3-44 in the second innings.

7. Matthew Nunn (Western Districts, A-grade)

Nunn makes the team of the week as wicketkeeper for the second week in a row after he scored 57 runs with five fours and two sixes before taking a catch in the second innings.

8. Angrej Singh (Souths, Reserve grade)

Singh is the first of the bowlers in this week’s team after he tore through the Highfields batting line-up to end with figures of 5-9 off four overs.

9. Mark Dunkley (Souths, A-grade)

Dunkley is the second Magpies bowler on this list with a five-wicket haul after he took 5-39 in A-grade.

10. Connor Philp (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)

Philp was equally destructive and economical with the ball as he took 4-21, while operating at an economy rate of 2.62 runs per over.

11. Marx Aluguvelli (University, A-grade)

Taking the final spot in the side is University’s Aluguvelli, who took 3-17, which included the vital wicket of Matthew Nunn.

12th man. Rohan McDonald (Western Districts, Reserve grade)

McDonald can find himself unlucky to not earn a spot in this week’s 11 as he impressed with bat and ball.

With the bat, he scored a solid 43 runs off 81 balls before dismissing the dangerous Matthew Dunn and Matthew Walls in the second innings to end with figures of 2-30.

Round 2

1. Cooper Webster (University, A-grade)

The University young gun takes the first opener’s spot after his stellar century against Souths in A-grade.

Webster scored 123 runs off 129 balls and hit 12 fours and one six.

On top of this he also made a handy contribution with the ball finishing with 2/25.

2. Matthew Nunn (Western Districts, A-grade)

Nunn put Met-Easts to the sword as he carried his bat to finish not out on 90.

He also took three catches in the second innings and is the wicketkeeper for this week’s side.

3. Nick Budden (Souths, A-grade)

At first drop is the Magpies’ number three after he scored a superb unbeaten 89 to guide his side to their first win of the season.

4. Rahul Suresh (Souths, A-grade)

In at four is Rahul Suresh, who put in a game-changing performance for Souths.

Suresh scored 87 runs off just 59 balls and was pivotal to his side’s win.

5. Lachlan Howard (Souths, Reserve grade)

Howard is the first Reserve-grade player in the team after his classy knock of 80 runs off 126 balls.

He was a stalwart at the crease as he spent almost 39 overs out in the middle and hit eight boundaries.

6. Luke Guymer (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

Taking the final specialist batter role in this week’s team is Guymer, who scored 67 runs off 53 balls.

He hit five fours and an impressive three sixes.

7. Luke Neale (Western Districts, A-grade)

Neale takes this week’s all-rounder spot after a dominant display with bat and ball.

Batting first, he laid down the foundations for his side with an impressive 59 runs.

He then stole the show in the second innings as he took 5/26.

8. Ajay Kumar (Souths, Reserve grade)

Kumar is the first of the bowlers in this list after his impressive display against Uni.

He took two wickets off his first two balls before ending with figures of 3/28.

9. Jason Randell (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

In at nine is the Northern Brothers bowler who tore through the Highfields batting line-up.

Randell took 5/24 off his eight overs and almost put in an impressive cameo batting at nine as he scored a quick-fire 25 runs off just 15 balls to end his side’s innings.

10. Hayden Rowe (University, Reserve grade)

Rowe put in a scintillating performance with the ball as he took 4/19 off five overs.

11. Connor Philp (Northern Brothers Diggers, A-grade)

Philp takes the final bowler’s spot as he took 3/22 off eight overs at a very economical 2.75 runs per over.

12th man. Jordan Wikaire (Northern Brothers Diggers, Reserve grade)

Wikaire is this week’s 12th man after his 68 runs off 72 balls.

Round 1

After an action-packed opening round of Toowoomba cricket, The Chronicle has compiled a team of the week featuring the best performers from A and Reserve grade.

The team consists of the five best batters, best all-rounder, wicketkeeper and four best bowlers as well as a 12th man.

1. Darren Koch (Met-Easts, A-grade)

Koch is the first of the openers on this list after he scored an impressive 84 runs off 67 balls.

His inning included nine fours and four sixes as he guided the Trojans to an opening round win over the Magpies.

2. Tully Willson (University, A-grade)

The other opener in this week’s team is University’s Tully Willson, who tore the Highfields bowling attack to shreds.

Wilson scored 113 runs off 101 balls and hit 14 fours and two sixes.

3. Dean Fry (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

At first drop is Met-Easts’ Dean Fry, who scored an unbeaten 98 off 90 balls.

Fry came agonisingly short of his century as he needed three runs off the final ball of the innings but could only manage a single.

4. Matthew Walls (University, Reserve grade)

In arguably the best performance from all grades on the weekend, Walls scored a blistering 112 runs off just 60 balls in University’s eight-wicket win over Highfields.

Walls scored a whopping 94 runs from boundaries as he hit 10 fours and a monster nine sixes.

5. Liam Brown (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

Brown comes in at third drop after his classy century against Souths at Harristown Park.

He scored 108 runs off 97 balls with 11 fours and four sixes.

6. Tim Sullivan (Northern Brothers, Reserve grade)

Taking up the all-rounder spot is Northern Brothers’ Tim Sullivan who guided his side to a 43-run win over Western Districts.

Sullivan scored 59 runs off 52 balls in the first innings, then backed it up with 3/17 from six overs in the second innings.

7. Dean Sullivan (University, A-grade)

Dean Sullivan is this week’s wicketkeeper after his impressive display against Highfields.

Sullivan scored 85 runs off 81 balls and stumped the Bulldogs’ Ben Anderson for 49.

8. Marcus Frizzell (Western Districts, A-grade)

Frizzell is the first of the bowlers on this list after he took 3/23 in the Warriors’ comprehensive win over Northern Brothers Diggers.

9. Aidan Watterson (Northern Brothers, A-grade)

With Northern Brothers needing something special to defend their low first innings total of 122, Watterson gave his side a glimmer of hope as he took all four of his side’s wickets to end his spell with figures of 4/45.

10. Darryl Pettit (Met-Easts, Reserve grade)

Pettit spearheaded the Trojans’ bowling attack as he took 4/33 to bowl Souths out for 142.

11. Michael Dowe (Western Districts, A-grade)

Rounding out the starting 11 is Western Districts’ Michael Dowe, who took 4/21 with an economy rate of just 2.62 runs per over.

12th man. Arshdeep Singh (Highfields, A-grade)

This week’s 12th man is Highfields’ Arshdeep Singh who scored an unbeaten 78 off just 54 balls.

Despite his powerful display with the bat, it was ultimately not enough as University chased down the Bulldogs’ total of 272 in the final over of the game.
