The International Legends of League showpiece is set to return to the Downs on November 9 with the Australian Team of NRL Legends side taking on a Goondiwindi all-stars line-up at Gilbert Oval.
This marks the second time this year the International Legends of League have held an event in the region, with the NRL side taking on the Pittsworth all-stars back in February.
On top of taking part in a clash against some of the Goondiwindi local legends, the NRL legends also take part in school visits in the region prior to the game day.
Speaking in the lead-up to the Pittsworth clash, NRL icon Ben Hannant shared the joy he has had being a part of the Legends of League – where some of the game’s all-time greats give back to country towns.
“I have come on board and it is fantastic to come out to these country towns and see the great legends of these towns put their boots back on and play footy with their kids and their grandkids watching them and seeing their heroes.
“It is a really special thing to be a part of.
“It is all about having fun, the great thing is the great game of rugby league brings us all together as a community and it is a great night out for young and old.”
Action will kick off at 1.45pm, with Goondiwindi State School and St Mary’s School teams facing off before the Gomeroi Goannas and Goondiwindi Boars lock horns in an under-15 contest at 3.30pm.
This will then be followed by a men’s clash between Toomelah and the Oakey Redbelly Blacks, with Goondiwindi combined juniors closing out the curtain raising events before the legends game kicks off at 6.30pm.
