Pittsworth will be the place to be on February 17 when the Pittsworth Danes All Stars take on the Australian Team of NRL Legends as a part of the International Legends of League event.

Former Origin and Kangaroos superstars are set to lace up for what is set to be a highly entertaining clash against some Pittsworth icons.

Former Queensland Maroons prop Ben Hannant is one of the legends playing in this game and as a former Toowoomba Clydesdale, he is keen to give back to the region which helped kickstart his career.

“I started my senior football career here at the Toowoomba Clydesdales,” he said.

“It brings back great memories, as a young kid fresh out of high school, going to the Broncos and then travelling to Toowoomba to play against men, it was a huge step up for a young kid.

“I have a lot of memories, staying in the motels here, going out after the games and the full experience of going from a boy to a man, a lot of that happened here in Toowoomba so it is pretty cool to be able to get out this way and bit further west out at Pittsworth and Millmerran as well.

“That is the great thing about our game, it takes us everywhere.”

Hannant has been involved with the Legends of League since his retirement and has loved the opportunity to give back to the community through these events.

“Legends of League, I have been part of them for seven or eight years now, so since I retired from footy,” he said.

“I have come on board and it is fantastic to come out to these country towns and see the great legends of these towns put their boots back on and play footy with their kids and their grandkids watching them and seeing their heroes.

“It is a really special thing to be a part of.”

Hannant is looking forward to winding back the clock alongside former Maroons and Broncos teammate Sam Thaiday, with Hannant promising an eye-catching display from the pair.

“Sammy Thaiday and myself, we have a very good combination and we will be pairing up again, we will be putting on a show,” he said.

“If there is not three tries between both of us, we haven’t had a go, so we are going to give it a red-hot crack, we are going to score some tries.

“But the main thing is, you may find Sam and myself in a pair of budgie smugglers while the game is still going.

“It is all about having fun, the great thing is the great game of rugby league brings us all together as a community and it is a great night out for young and old.”

The day will also have several Pittsworth teams playing in pre-season games as a curtain raiser before the main show kicks off at 6pm.
