Brothers under-19 Toowoomba Rugby League squad unbeaten in first 11 games of season

With the mid-season President’s Cup trophy tucked away in their clubhouse, unbeaten Brothers Under-19s are the team to beat. Coach Brett Wilson reveals how they’ve climbed to the top of the ladder

Rugby league is a simple game ‘when you break it down’ according to Brendan Wilson.

And right now his under-19 Brothers squad is the best at breaking it down.

Unbeaten in their first 11 games and with the President’s Cup tucked away in the trophy cabinet – the Hursley Road club are the competition benchmark.

Wilson however believes the best is yet to come.

“We couldn’t have wished for a better start to the season. Winning all our games including the President’s Cup,” he said.

“We have had some pretty tight games, got a few things wrong here and there at times, but the boys have come through and we’ve got the wins.

“I do believe our best footy is ahead of us though. We’ve got a great team here, there is carry on among the players, they’re out there playing for the team, for each other and I think we improve.”

Wilson believes his team’s success to date has been built on a simple but very effective game plan.

Brothers hard running pack is a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the field creating space for the team’s talented back line to work in.

“It (league) is a pretty simple game when you break it down,” Wilson said.

“You work hard through your forwards and hopefully get a quick play the ball or a bit of a roll on and once you have that momentum your backs can go to work.

“The boys have done that really well so far this season.

“It’s going to be a really interesting run to finals though. There is absolutely nothing in this competition. It is really tight.

“Anyone who makes top five end of season is a legitimate chance to win the whole thing.”
