LEAGUE: Toowoomba and the South West will be given a taste of their potential rugby league future next Saturday.
As the Western Clydesdales Hostplus Cup bid gathers momentum – Toowoomba’s Clive Berghofer Stadium will play host to a clash that will thrill league fans.
Reigning Hostplus Cup premiers Norths Devils will square off with competition excitement machines the PNG Hunters.
The Hunters’ decision to move their home game to the Garden City is big coup for the region.
“We’re very lucky to have the current premiers and the competition entertainers playing here in Toowoomba,” Western Clydesdales chairman Tony Coonan said.
“It (the game) is going to be a real cracker and a great opportunity to show Toowoomba and the South West region the type of footy we expect all the time when our Hostplus Cup bid is successful.”
Toowoomba Regional Council and Queensland Rugby League have heavily backed the move and the Clydesdales NRL affiliate are also on board.
“The Canterbury Bulldogs are excited too,” Coonan said.
“They’re right behind the game and want to see it succeed as well as our Hostplus Cup bid.
“Having a Hostplus Cup team would be great for Toowoomba, the region and the local (league) competition.”
Tickets for the Saturday, May 7 showdown are available from toowoombatickets.com.au and at the gate.
Kick-off is 3pm.
