Toowoomba strikes it rich with new $750k Queensland-only race

RACING: The action was thick and fast during the King of the Mountain slot draw.

With more than 70 parties nominating for just 12 spots in the race the interest was always going to be high but no one could’ve predicted what took place during the draw.

“The interest in the draw was massive,” King of the Mountain committee chair Paul Reedy said.

“We had people at the event and people watching the livestream and as soon as each slot holder was drawn there were people jockeying for spots.

“We had trainers and stables looking to get their horses into the race and slot holders trying to strike up deals to fill their spots.

“All in all it was the exact outcome we were hoping for and we’re expecting it to be a very exciting event.”

While fitness, form and availability will ultimately determine which horses line up in the New Year’s Eve there’s no doubt the quality will be high.

Slot owners are leaving no stone unturned as they look to secure the best runners possible.

“You would have to think Apache Chase will feature if fit with Sherilee Estate picking up one of the auctioned slots,” Reedy said.

“Horses like Dr Why Not, Kisukano and Jui Swiss Belle are being talked about as well.

“I’ve also heard a few eyes will be on Chinny Boom in Brisbane this weekend – it’s a Rockhampton horse with four wins from its first four starts.

“I think it’s won by about 18 lengths collectively over those wins so no doubt a few people will be looking at it.”
