The Mountaineers women’s side has added Lisa Salmi and Kim Wilson to their women’s roster for 2025.

The experienced duo played key roles for the Mountaineers last season and their game IQ will be key for the younger cohort of players in the squad.

“It’s massive for the program to have two local veterans who are outstanding role models within the community and within our program,” Mountaineers head coach Matt Cox said.

“They both have been unbelievable players and unbelievable human beings as well.”

Wilson is an energetic leader who brings a strong defensive presence in the front court.

She featured in all 15 games for the Mountaineers last season, averaging more than 20 minutes of on court action per game, 5.4 rebounds and 7.3 points per game.

“She is unfortunately recovering from an injury but has rehabbed really well and is slowly making her return to the court,” Cox said.

Wilson’s ability to distribute the ball out of the high post was crucial for the Mountaineers’ play style last season and Cox expects her to play a key role on offence again this year.

Salmi returned to the Mountaineers last season, bringing elite level experience to the roster and was one of their key playmakers on the way to a finals berth

“Lisa is the heart and soul of the team, she’s the on court and emotional leader of the team with the experience she has to continue to do what she does,” Cox said.

“She has been the most impressive player through pre-season so far and I am very excite to see Lisa go around at least one more time anyway.”

Mia Stower and Brittany Hayes

Mia Stower and Brittany Hayes were the first Mountaineers confirmed for 2025.

Mountaineers women’s coach Matt Cox shared his delight to have the duo returning this year as his side looks to break the club’s 30-year senior championship drought.

“I think laying the foundation with two local players who have been in our program for a number of years is really good,” Cox said.

“They are the people that uphold the values and the type of person that we want to have in our club.”

After a stellar 2024 campaign where she recorded a double-double almost every game, Stower will be one of the main focal points of the Mountaineers’ offence this season.

“Mia’s the face of the franchise type of player that we want to build around,” Cox said.

“She is a double-double threat every night, a great rebounder and athlete and strong around the rim.

“She took on leadership last year and will evolve in that role again this year.

“Having someone who drives how practise should be and the commitment for what it takes to be a winning team in training, she was fantastic in that last year and I think this year will be the best we have ever seen of her.”

Cox also expects strong contributions from Hayes, with the versatile talent making her mark on both ends of the floor.

“She has been a valuable contributor for a number of years and is another good, strong positive leader,” he said.

“We have seen games where she can get hot from three and pile on the points and she has grown as a defender.

“I think she has learned how to gamble a little less but get her hands in the passing lanes at the right time.

“When you combine the threat of her backdoor cut - which is a trademark of hers - and her corner threes, that definitely is advantageous for us.”
