He is establishing himself as one of Australia’s brightest young riders and now Hunter Corney has sights set on the world.
The 12-year-old motorcycle racer currently sits third in the Australian FIM MiniGP Championship.
A top two finish in the championship will earn Hunter a ride at the world championship finals in Valencia, Spain later this year.
Approached by Evolution Sports Group to compete in the prestigious series, Hunter jumped at the opportunity.
“It’s pretty exciting. I really like the style of racing,” Hunter said.
“Racing on the go-kart tracks is a lot different to what I am used and I’m thankful to Evolution Sports Group for the opportunity.”
Despite his young age, Hunter is no stranger to life on the track.
He began riding at the age of two and started racing at six.
As well as competing on the track, Hunter is also an avid and talented motocross rider.
Hunter is racing in 10-14 class of the FIM MiniGP – the youngest age bracket of the global racing initiative.
Every rider races on the same motorcycle an Italian Ohvale 160cc four-stroke motorcycle with 10” wheels.
The standard bike allows the riders to better show their skills on the track.
“It (FIM MiniGP) is a lot more technical,” Hunter said.
“The tracks are a lot tighter, smaller and don’t flow like the tracks I normally race on.
“It means you have to stay focused and consistent because there is not as much opportunity to get around and pass people.
“The trick is stay as close as you can to the front and really push at the end.”
Hunter will race in round 3 of the Australian FIM MiniGP this Saturday and Sunday July 22 and 23 in Ipswich.
