A luxury six-bedroom property overlooking Table Top Mountain and the Lockyer Valley has set a new sale record for a Toowoomba home.
The incredible house on Fletcher Street in Redwood sold through Ecology Property in March for a whopping $4.925m.
Built for the seller in 2018 by Toowoomba builder Mark Sorensen, the Craig van Heerden-designed house sits on 3600 sqm right on the edge of the escarpment.
It covers 1100 sqm of floor space and features three bathrooms, premium stone finishes, huge kitchen, ducted airconditioning, in-ground heated swimming pool and an outdoor terrace with heaters and a pizza oven.
The price well and truly cleared the previous record for a detached house set in March 2021 for a seven-bedroom mansion in Preston, just outside Toowoomba.
Within the Toowoomba urban area, a five-bedroom luxury property on McStay Street in Middle Ridge held the previous record of $3.6m in June 2019.
Ecology Property’s Matt De Maid said the home’s appeal was in its “unassuming” exterior from the street.
“We just marketed it from the point of view that it’s over 1100 sqm of house (but) I liked how discreet it was from the street, it was appealing (to the buyer),” he said.
“When you walk in the front door, the scale and height of the living area and view of Table Top (is incredible) — that image will be burnt into my mind for a long time.
“It’s a bit unassuming, but when you get in, there’s a real presence.”
Mr De Maid said the property attracted serious interest, mainly from Toowoomba residents and couples out west looking to relocate.
“(The high-end market) is very robust, it’s probably the one thing I’ve learned from selling that house,” he said.
“The sheer volume of people looking to purchase in excess of $4m was something I wasn’t aware of.
“There was a mix (of buyers), a lot of the people who were local, some buyers were from western areas.
“When you look at the current challenges around building, to have a ready-made house with that view was valuable.”
As for the next property to break the record, Mr De Maid said there were plenty of tightly-held homes that could crack the $5m mark if they were to hit the market.
“If the last two years have taught me anything, it’s that anything could happen, and there are certainly properties in Toowoomba that are worth $5m or more,” he said.
