Clifton’s Club Hotel near Toowoomba hits market through Elders Real Estate

An original pub whose foundations date back to the late 1800s has hit the market, and the agent in charge believes it just needs a breath of fresh air. Details here:

One of the Toowoomba region’s oldest pubs has hit the market as part of an expressions of interest campaign.

Elders Real Estate has listed Clifton’s the Club Hotel, also known locally as the “pink pub”, on King Street for sale.

The venue, which was originally built in 1889, features a bar, restaurant for 100 guests, four gaming machines, five motel rooms and outdoor entertainment areas.

Lead agent Jack Mantova said the pub hadn’t changed hands in 17 years and needed some new life breathed into it.

“It’s still the original build, it’s never been burned down (like other pubs have), it’s been restored and renovated over the years,” he said.

“The current owners put a lot of money and time into it — it’s a well-known and well-visited establishment in Clifton.

“It just needs a breath of new life in it, the pub would be the best in the Darling Downs if someone was to come in and revamp it.

“It’s not so much the money, but the time and energy.

“It’s all been replumbed and rewired, the money has been spent apart from some cosmetic things — what it needs is some new life.”

Mr Mantova said the neighbouring land parcel had been approved by the Toowoomba Regional Council for extra accommodation if the new owners wanted to action it.

“It’s got five motel rooms on the top floor that are very nice, and then there is an approval for cabins,” he said.

“It’s all there, it just needs someone to kick it back into gear.”
