During his time in the spotlight Wayne Carey has been no stranger to controversies.

1996: Charged with the indecent assault of a woman — allegedly grabbing her breast — which was settled out of court.

2000: Gave character evidence in court for notorious underworld figure Jason Moran, who was subsequently killed in Melbourne’s gang wars.

2002: Carey is caught at a party having an affair with the wife of his teammate and best friend Anthony Stevens and is forced to leave North Melbourne in disgrace.

2006: Made headlines when he announced he was leaving his pregnant wife for model Kate Neilson.

2007: Arrested in Miami for breaking a wine glass in former fiancee Kate Neilson’s face and attacking police.

2008: Police used capsicum spray to subdue Carey after he assaulted officers in Port Melbourne. He also parted ways with Channel 9 and 3AW.
